Sony, Honda join forces for developing EVs, aims the first model in 2025
Sony Group and Honda Motor have announced that have agreed to set up a joint venture and signed an MoU to develop electric vehicles, aiming to market their first EV in 2025.
The partners hope to launch the joint venture this year and market their first EV model in 2025. Honda will make the cars, while Sony will oversee developing entertainment, network, and other mobility services.
The fresh association comes as the auto industry shifts to electric vehicles.
"We would like to contribute to the evolution of mobility through our partnership with Honda, which has global experience and knowledge in the automotive industry and has led the industry with progressive approaches," stated Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida in a statement.
"We would like to combine the technological assets of both companies and ambitiously pursue the possibilities," said Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe.
In January, Sony said the company was planning to develop a new electric vehicle business that will generate recurring revenues from services, including software and content updates.
